Marijuana: How is eating and drinking foods that contain it(edibles) different from smoking it?

We can’t get into all the different ways marijuana is consumed here, but the main difference is you need to smoke the actual plant. You’re taking a long puff of it to smoke it. If you have edibles, you put the dose in a different way, usually in baked goods, like a brownie, a cookie, or a candy. It takes a different amount of time to take effect. It’s slower to take effect. The effects are also less intense. You can’t smoke a cookie or a brownie and go run five miles. You’re kind of stuck eating and drinking it for several hours.

I was nervous the first time I ate a whole cookie. But I really like the effects from the brownies, and I think it’s less intense. One way it’s similar to smoking is that you can’t hold your breath, like you do when you smoke.

How do edibles affect people differently than THC?

For some people, it could make them feel relaxed, especially if they haven’t smoked marijuana for a long time. Or it might make them feel light-headed and sleepy. It could make you sleepy in the morning and you might not feel refreshed. It could make you feel really warm, and maybe make you feel hot in certain parts of your body. How long does it take to feel the effects? An hour after you eat it, it could take anywhere from half an hour to two hours before you really get the effects. You can actually start feeling the effects within 10 or 15 minutes after you eat it. The effects last for about four to six hours.
